The Art of the Football Shirt was open on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 July as part of the Jacket Required trade show in Shoreditch, London. However, it was already revealed on Twitter that the author Neal Heard plans to tour the exhibition across Europe and UK.

The Art of the Football Shirt - London

There were many iconic football shirts at display at the Art of the Football Shirt exhibition in London last week.

The author of the exhibition, Neal Heard, thinks that football fashion is coming back around: "We've had 15 years of simple, plain designs and now I think it's time to go back the other way," he told The Guardian. "You don't have to go crazy."

From Hull City's tiger print jerseys to Holland's famous 1988 jersey, the collection includes almost every curious kit design. Asked if there would be any shirts that have proved impossible to track down, Neal Heard said: "Levi's made a shirt for Mexico in 1978," Heard mutters ruefully. "But I can't even find one to get a photograph." As for the mint green away version of West Germany's iconic kit, there is only one he has ever found – in a fellow enthusiast's collection in Thailand.

Do you own any of the shirts displayed at the exhibition? What's your all-time favorite football kit? Let us know in the comments below and read an interview with the author of the exhibition.
