Update: The Italian Serie A kicked off last weekend. Several of the players who won the Best Player award wore a special badge on their shirt - Cristiano Ronaldo, however, did not use it.

Yesterday, we reported that Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella, the top scorer of the Serie A 18-19 season, has received a special gold patch that will be displayed on his shirts throughout the 2019-20 campaign. However, Quagliarella will likely not be the only player to have a special badge on his kit.

Italian Serie A introduced an all-new logo for the 2019-2020 campaign. The special badge is also part of the new identity of the Italian league.

Six Winners Of Individual Awards Allowed To Wear Special Badge

The new patch that will appear on the Serie A 2019-20 shirts is designated for the six different winners of the individual Serie A 2018-19 awards, as explained by the Lega Serie A in a statement.

The rankings for each category were drawn up according to a weighting developed by Ernst & Young based on the statistical surveys of STATS and OPTA, with the help of the tracking data recorded by Netco Sports. The ranking considers the races of Serie A TIM , those of TIM Cup and the Italian Super Cup .

The winners for the 2018-19 season:

BEST GOALKEEPER: Samir Handanovic

BEST DEFENDER: Kalidou Koulibaly

BEST MIDFIELDER: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

BEST ATTACKER: Fabio Quagliarella

BEST YOUNG MAN: Nicolò Zaniolo

MVP - BEST IN ABSOLUTE: Cristiano Ronaldo.

It is not known if every player who is allowed to do will decide to wear the badge on his shirt.
