Augsburg Trolls Bayern Munich Over Kit Similarities

In a playful social media jab, FC Augsburg has poked fun at Bayern Munich's newly released 125th anniversary jersey, claiming the German champions have taken inspiration from its bordeaux-colored away kit released around a half year earlier.

One day after Bayern launched its commemorative dark red jersey with gold accents, Augsburg posted a cheeky comparison on its official X account, writing: "Hmm, @FCBayern looks kind of familiar! What do you have to say about your defense?"

The post included a meme format suggesting Bayern had copied Augsburg's homework, placing images of the two similar-looking kits side by side. Augsburg's "Römertrikot" (Roman jersey) was unveiled in early August as their away kit for the current season.

However, Bayern had actually used a similar dark red and gold color scheme for their 2022-23 Oktoberfest season kit - before Augsburg's design even existed.

Indeed, considering the lead times involved, Footy Headlines is confident that the resemblance between the two kits is purely coincidental. Both teams selected a color combination that rarely disappoints; when paired with rich, detailed elements, this results in an outstanding kit.

Bayern Munich's special edition jersey, which features golden details and an anniversary crest highlighting the club's 125-year history, will debut on March 8 when the men's team faces VfL Bochum in Bundesliga action. The women's team will wear the kit on March 14 against Wolfsburg.
