It's just a few days until the 2017 MLS season kicks off with Portland Timbers taking on Minnesota United - it's the perfect time to sit back and review this season's new (and carried over) kits for all 22 teams.
More so than in previous season's, a clear pattern is visible in universal jersey supplier Adidas' effort, which is not a bad thing in itself. But see for yourself.
Atlanta United
Coached by former Barcelona and Argentina manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino, Atlanta United received two new jerseys from Adidas thanks to being one of two new teams in MLS this year. Whereas the home sports a black and red striped look, the away has an unusual light grey base color.
Chicago Fire
Chicago Fire received a new away kit for the 2017 season, with the home uniform carried over from last year. Adidas and the club opted for a grey base with navy and red detailing and a subtle melange material pattern.
Colorado Rapids
Colorado Rapids' traditional and classy home attire was complemented by a yellow, blue and red effort, inspired by the Colorado flag, for 2017.
Columbus Crew
Not only did the Columbus Crew get a new home uniform this year, it also reverted the colors compared to the previous effort, which is now used in away games instead.
D.C. United
Inspired by club crest and traditional Indian headdresses, the new DC United away shirt introduces a rather special design to complement the understated and clean home uniform.
FC Dallas
The new Dallas 2017 away kit boasts a unique graphic on the front that derives from the clear Texas night skies and will be used in addition to the carry-over home uniform with its hoop pattern on the front.
Houston Dynamo
"Space City Blue" makes its return for the Houston Dynamo 2017 home kit.
LA Galaxy
Definitely one of the most well-known and successful clubs in the league, LA Galaxy updated its away uni ahead of the 2017 MLS season. It is dark blue with a subtle melange pattern and yellow and light blue accents.
Minnesota United FC
The second new team besides Atlanta is Minnesota United. Since Minnesota joining the league was only confirmed a few months ago, Adidas didn't have enough time to create bespoke and unique kits for them. Here's hope for two new jerseys next season.
Montreal Impact
One of the three Canadian clubs in the MLS, Montreal Impact introduced a crisp, clean white away kit ahead of the new season to complement its Inter-like home uniform.
New England Revolution
New England Revolution opted for a half-and-half look with the new 2017 away kit.
New York City FC
Yet another classy look and an interesting alternative to sister club Manchester City's Nike shirts, NYCFC received a new home kit to complement the rather unique away kit that was debuted last year.
New York Red Bulls
The other New York club, Red Bulls made the biggest change to its home kit in years, introducing a design with diagonal striping across the front.
Orlando City SC
The new Orlando City home kit is another one to feature a melange design.
Philadelphia Union
The Philadelphia Union 2017 away kit introduces a very smooth look in white with gold details and dark blue insets and sleeves.
Portland Timbers
The Portland Timbers 2017 home jersey has a very classy look in green and gold to complement the spectacular red-black away uni.
Real Salt Lake
One of the cleanest looks in the whole league, the Real Salt Lake 2017 away kit is one of those designs that will grow over time, we think.
San Jose Earthquakes
Once again inspired by the club crest, the San Jose Earthquakes home kit has a very distinct graphic print, predominantly on lower right of the shirt.
Seattle Sounders FC
The only team in the league to have a third kit right now, Seattle Sounders unveiled a new away shirt ahead of the 2017 season. It draws inspired from the jerseys worn in the earliest years of the club.
Sporting Kansas City
Easily one of the most compatible home-away combos, Sporting Kansas City launched a new home kit ahead of the season, alongside a slight update to the sponsor logo which also made its way onto the away top.
Toronto FC
Having narrowly missed out on the MLS title the last time, Toronto will try again wearing a new look in red with charcoal details. The garish away uni was carried over.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC
Completing the 2017 lineup for the MLS are the Vancouver Whitecaps, with the club releasing yet another jersey that derives from a feature of its home city and surrounding region. This time it's Vancouver status as "Rain City" that lead to a a triangle pattern on front and sleeves. The away kit was carried over, as is tradition.
