Completely Different - Adidas X 17+ vs Laceless Next-Gen Adidas X 18+ Boots

Adidas will release the next-generation Adidas X 18+ soccer boots in the coming days. While previous generations of the Adidas X football boots built up on the previous generation, the next-generation Adidas X 18+ and the Adidas X 17+ are two totally different boots. We compare the next-generation Adidas X 18+ with the Adidas X 17+.

Adidas X 17+ Purespeed vs X 18+

Upper

Whereas the current-generation Adidas X 17+ Purespeed football boots come with hidden laces (faux-laceless one-piece techfit compression upper), the next-generation Adidas X 18+ football boot features a much more lightweight and thin real laceless Speedmesh upper. The upper and the complete construction of both cleats have not much in common at all.

Sole Plate

The sole plates of the Adidas X 17+ Purespeed soccer cleat and the Adidas X 18+ soccer cleat are both made for acceleration, agility and speed. Compared to the Adidas X 17+ Purespeed, the Adidas X 18+ puts the focus more on lightweight and speed with a minimalistic construction that is very similar to the Adidas F50 Adizero sole plate.

Adidas X 17+ Purespeed vs Adidas X 18+ Soccer Cleats - Overall

The Adidas X 18+ football boot bring the Adidas X silo in a new era. Whereas the Adidas X 17+ football boot features just a lace cover and is marketed both as chaos and speed boot by the Three Stripes, the next-generation Adidas X 18+ football boot is all about speed and acceleration. One could say that the next-generation Adidas X 18+ is a modern Adidas F50 Adizero boot.

Pricing for the next-generation Adidas X 18+ football boots will be very similar - the Adidas X 18+ will retail at around 300 USD (300 Euro, 250 GBP), the same price as the current-gen Adidas X 17+.
