Borussia Dortmund have quietly unveiled a new visual identity. The rebranding was made by DesignStudio.
The new Borussia Dortmund branding is already live on the club's website and social media accounts.
Borussia Dortmund Update Visual Identity
The Borussia Dortmund 2023 rebrand is based on the Die Gelbe Wand, or "Yellow Wall," which symbolizes the club's collective power and community. The custom typeface suite is inspired by the 34º angle of attack, and the number system is based on the horizontals and diagonals of the graphic device.
Two things are possibly most interesting for us. First, three kits were showcased by DesignStudio featuring the new visual identity. Second, the extended color palette features neons and greys inspired by the stadium's colors, vintage BVB shirts, and the city.
Borussia Dortmund Kits Inspired by New Visual Identity
Neon Yellow & Grey Become Part of Visual Identity
It remains to be seen if Puma will release BVB kits featuring the reactivated neon yellow and grey for Borussia Dortmund for the 2024-25 season and beyond.
New BVB Font
Sinead Kirby, Senior Strategist at DesignStudio said, “Founded in 1909, BVB were beloved for being the underdogs in a world where football was about tradition and local community. Their promise–Eichte Liebe, or ‘Real Love’– spoke to the devotion and loyalty of the fans, the players and the club.
Fast forward over a century to a culture where football is international and not just about love, but also about commercial success. BVB’s impressive performance means they’re certainly no longer the underdogs, but they are still challengers. Our task was to bring these two worlds together to revive the BVB passion and retell their story.”
