Uruguay Announces Nike Kit Deal

The Uruguayan Football Association surprised everyone on Wednesday, announcing that the team will wear Nike kits at the 2024 Copa America.

This news comes just a couple of days after there were pretty strong rumors about Uruguay switching to Adidas this summer. What was reported was that Uruguay would buy off-shelve Adidas kits for the 2024 Copa and then make the supplier switch official on July 1st.

Uruguay to Sign Adidas Kit Deal

Today's announcement is very swift, with the federation stating that Nike was chosen as the kit supplier for the 2024 Copa America and that the decision was made based on an open tender that was initiated on March 15.

As usual, there is no word about financial details, but in this case not even the duration of the contract is given - this could mean that the deal will be valid only for the tournament and not afterwards.

The team's previous contract with Puma ended in December, and Uruguay wore in-house kits for their matches so far this year.

The 2024 Copa America will be held in the United States, with the tournament kicking off on 20 June. Uruguay's first match is scheduled for 23 June against Panama at the Sun Life Stadium in Florida. There is also a friendly against Mexico scheduled for 5 June, which could mark the debut of the new Nike uniforms for the Celeste team.
