The biggest change is the stop of monochromatic crests
All-New Benfica Kit Guidelines: Benfica Home Kits to Must Be Red With White as Preferred Accent Color, Away Kit Must Be White, Third Kit Designated For Experiments - Club to Use Non-Recolored Badge on All Kits
At the General Assembly in September 2024, SL Benfica members voted overwhelmingly in favor of new guidelines for the club's football kits, ensuring that future designs maintain historical traditions while still allowing room for modern trends. This proposal was brought forward by Francisco Torgal, a dedicated fan who felt that the club's recent kits strayed too far from Benfica's identity.
The main points of the proposal are as follows:
Home Kit:
Benfica's home jersey must always be red, paired with white shorts and red or black socks. The emblem must remain in its original, full-color form. Recent designs, such as the 2020-21 season’s red-orange jersey with black details and a monochromatic gold logo, were deemed unacceptable by fans, prompting this change.
Away Kit:
The away kit must primarily be white, with red accents if possible, aligning with the club’s traditional colors.
Third Kit:
For the third kit, there is more flexibility, allowing Adidas creative freedom to introduce modern trends. Adidas will still be adhering to tradition by having to use the full-color emblem.
Club Emblem:
The club's emblem must always appear in its original colors across all kits, banning the use of monochromatic or altered versions.
These changes were approved by over 80% of the nearly 2,000 members in attendance. Torgal drew inspiration from clubs like CR Flamengo and AC Milan, which have similarly strict guidelines for their kits.
The review of SL Benfica’s statutes is still ongoing, the changes won't take effect until the 2026-2027 season
The review of SL Benfica’s statutes is still ongoing, meaning the new guidelines may not take effect until the 2026-27 season, unless Adidas adapts the designs earlier.
Benfica Kit Guidelines
See below SL Benfica’s new guidelines for the football kits, according to the proposal made by Francisco Torgal in the General Assembly.
- The teams of SPORT LISBOA e BENFICA must obligatorily and primarily adopt the red jersey with the emblem, white shorts, and red or black socks. In women's sports, the shorts may be black.
- When the need arises to use an alternative kit, the teams must adopt the white jersey with the emblem, red shorts, and white socks.
- The Board may determine the use of third kits, while always keeping the original emblem.
- Whenever it is not possible to use SPORT LISBOA e BENFICA’s kit, the emblem and the designation SLB will be present.
- The emblem of SPORT LISBOA e BENFICA must be used exclusively in its original design and colors. It is expressly forbidden to alter the emblem on the equipment.
The last time Benfica's home and away kits featured the traditional red and white colors only with the full non-recolored crest was 10 years ago, back in the 2015-16 season.

Several of Benfica's recent kits would have been banned, all because of the use of monochromatic badges.
