After Protests: Limited-Edition Nike Hertha Berlin Diversity Kit Scrapped

Update: Amidst negative comments about the limited-edition Nike Hertha BSC Diversity jersey, the club announced that they are going to wear their traditional home kit against Bayer 04 Leverkusen to be in line with the club's active fan scene.

In the days prior to the announcement, discontent about the upcoming special-edition Nike Hertha Berlin 2019 Diversity shirt was often expressed through social media.

Hertha BSC have launched a new special-edition 'Diversity kit', which will be worn in the final Bundesliga of the season, against Leverkusen this weekend.

Hertha BSC Diversity Kit

The Hertha Berlin 2019 Diversity kit is predominantly white, based on the Nike Park template. On the left side of the shirt is a rainbow graphic, while main sponsor TEDi also agreed to have its logo recolored in rainbow colors.

Blue shorts and socks will complete the Hertha Berlin 2019 Diversity kit.

“Diversity is one of our basic values, which shapes Hertha BSC on a daily basis. One look into our changing rooms shows how sport connects people from all around the world and that people’s origins are completely unimportant,” explained Michael Preetz, Hertha BSC's general manager.

“We are pleased that, together with Hertha BSC, we are setting a huge example for diversity in our society. We were more than happy for our corporate design to take a back seat for this special shirt. The rainbow colours have been well chosen to represente diversity and tolerance and also clearly show our stance on discrimination and racism,” explained Sven Bialluch, managing director of TEDi.

The shirt, which is limited, is already available to buy at Hertha.
