11 January 2024: Puma Prepares "Historic" Offer for Barcelona Kit Deal
Barcelona is reportedly in talks with Puma to become their new kit supplier. According to a report by Barça news channel Más Que Pelotas shared by local newspaper Sport, the German brand is preparing a historic offer to replace Nike, which has been dressing Barça's shirts since 1998. The new deal could take effect from the 2025-26 season onwards.
Puma to Replace Nike as Barça's Kit Supplier?
Puma's bid is said to be significantly higher than the figure agreed upon between Nike and the club until 2028. The North American brand is reportedly worried about the German competitor's firm commitment, although they remain calm due to clauses that would prevent Barça from breaking their link easily.
According to Sport, the current agreement between Barcelona and Nike sees the latter paying the former a minimum of €105 million per season. However, only €66 million corresponds to direct sponsorship income, while the rest is likely related to how many products are being sold.
According to the YouTube channel Mas Que Pelotas, which frequently covers FC Barcelona, Puma could offer the club a contract that is "much higher" than the one it has with Manchester City. In 2019, Puma agreed to pay Manchester City £650 million over 10 years (£65 per year).
Barça's management is convinced that the club deserves much more from the contract with Nike, and they are reportedly working to seek an early exit from the agreement that binds both entities until 2028.
