If you watched Liga MX in the past few days, you might have noticed that something was odd on the kits of teams such as Santos Laguna. However, it was not an error but an actually quite smart advertising campaign.
Within the framework of International Beer Day on August 2 2019 and to reinforce its message of responsible consumption, Grupo Modelo's portfolio changed the order of the letters of its brands to make consumers aware of the effects of excessive drinking. Therefore, the advert on the kits featured an intended spelling error - 'Bud Lihgt' instead of 'Bud Light'.
Part Of Larger Drink Responsibly Campaign
Additionally, also as part of the campaign, in what would appear to be a production error, brands such as Corona, Victoria, Modelo Especial, Stella Artois, Bud Light and Michelob Ultra changed the name of their labels to convey this important message about responsible consumption.
"As a company and as leaders in the brewing industry, we seek to raise awareness of the importance of responsible drinking when enjoying our products. We aim to generate a social impact with initiatives that demonstrate our commitment to our consumers and society in general," said Cassiano de Stefano, President of Grupo Modelo.
According to the latest figures from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in Mexico approximately 24,000 people die each year in accidents related to alcohol abuse. However, many citizens, mainly young people, do not measure the problem.
