Kappa has officially unveiled Chapecoense’s new goalkeeper home shirt for the 2026 season, created as a tribute to Torino FC.
In November 2016, the plane carrying the Chapecoense squad to the Copa Sudamericana final crashed near Medellín, Colombia, killing 71 people, including players, coaches and journalists. Torino FC’s connection goes back to May 1949, when the Grande Torino team - one of Italy’s greatest sides - died in the Superga air disaster near Turin, also in a plane crash that killed the entire squad.
Because both clubs suffered devastating aviation accidents, they forged a symbolic friendship in the years after the Chape crash. Torino has paid tribute to Chapecoense on multiple occasions (including wearing green kits and creating special shirts), and Chapecoense has honoured Torino’s history as well.
