Better Than Nike? 4 Stunning Puma Kaizer Chiefs Prototype Shirts Uncovered

Iconic South African club Kaizer Chiefs has been with Nike for what seems like an eternity, signing with the Swoosh all the way back in 2001. The deal was last renewed in 2016.

However, as shown by a number of prototypes revealed by renowned football shirt collector Gustavo Psonkevich (@GusCamisetas), around the time the last renewal was agreed, Puma was quite close to taking over.

Just like most of the club's Nike designs, the Puma Kaizer Chiefs prototype jerseys feature bespoke looks.

There's one home shirt, which boasts a clever subtle graphic print on the front, while there are three away shirts, one of which interestingly combines the default black and gold with light blue.

While we don't know which one the club liked most, one thing is for certain: none of these will ever be available to buy. These prototypes were commissioned by Puma in order to provide the club with a more concrete display of what to expect in case of signing with the brand.
