A few days ago, we reported that current sponsor Emirates has reportedly backed away from renewing its deal with PSG beyond the current season, with Qatar Airways unsurprisingly named as a prime contestant to take over. Now, the Qatari airline's CEO has spoken to French media to confirm the interest in sponsoring the Qatar-owned club.
Asked about the reports by La Tribune, a French financial paper, Akbar al Baker, the CEO of the Doha-based on company, said he was "interested". "Yes. I'm sure we'd be interested if the opportunity arose," he stated.
Regarding the €80million allegedly requested by Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, al Baker replied that "it is a problem that we can obviously negotiate".
As you can see, it's not looking too bad for PSG. The club will have to massively increase its sponsorship revenue to continue being competitive internationally amidst the latest revelations about it dodging Financial Fair Play regulations.
