Inter Wear Chinese Names to Celebrate Chinese New Year

With the Year of the Tiger coming up on Febraury 1, many big European clubs are using the chance to appeal to their Chinese fan base. As was done last year, Inter once again wore a special version of their regular home shirt.

Inter Wear Chinese Names

In their home win against Venezia yesterday, Inter players could be seen wearing special kits in celebration of the Chinese new year. The players' names were written in Chinese characters and the shirt numbers had a scratch pattern on them, referring to the Year of the Tiger of course.

More than anything else, in 2022 we hope we can hug each other once again.

Inter are also currently displaying an altered version of their logo on all social media platforms, which again features a tiger scratch look.

Luckily for Inter, Serie A rules do not forbid them from using Chinese characters for their players' names. Some other major European leagues, such as La Liga, do not allow this.

From a marketing standpoint, this effort by Inter makes a lot of sense, since appealing to the market in the world's most populous country will inevitably boost sales of kits and get people to watch the club's matches.

The special Chinese New Year edition Inter 2021-22 shirt retails at € 119,99. The enormous price tag of course has to do with the fact that the jersey must be bought with a name and number printed on it, otherwise it would just be the regular 21-22 home kit.
