The Argentina U20 team have quietly (at least for those outside Argentina) debuted the 3-star kit during the South American Youth Football Championship (CONMEBOL Sudamericano Sub20). This seems a bit strange at first glance, but it is all 100% correct.
FIFA Equipment Rules Allow Youth Teams to Wear Stars of Men's Teams
It is apparently wanted by FIFA that the Argentina U20 team wear the same stars on their kit as the Men's team, as visible in the official FIFA Equipment Rules.
Corresponding (Men's or Women's) age group teams are allowed to wear the same stars
According to FIFA, "A five-pointed FIFA Winners’ Star, or such other symbol as FIFA may specify, may be worn by a Member Association’s men’s or women’s senior national representative team (and by each corresponding age group team that competes for that Member Association in the same discipline)."
This means that since the Argentina Men's team has won three FIFA World Cups, they are allowed to wear the 3-star kit. The U20 team, as a corresponding age group team, is also allowed to wear the 3-star kit in their competitions.
The Men's team will officially debut the 3-star kit in March 2023, but the opponent has not yet been announced.
No Stars For FIFA Youth World Cups
Argentina's U20 are not allowed to wear 6 stars for the record 6 FIFA U20 World Cup titles.
Meanwhile, there are no stars given for the FIFA youth World Cups. FIFA only give stars for winning five titles in total. FIFA World Cup™; FIFA Women’s World Cup™; FIFA Futsal World Cup™, FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup™, and FIFAe Nations Cup™.
Argentina's U20 team are not allowed to wear six stars for their six FIFA U20 World Cup trophies
Argentina's U20 team are the most successful national team in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, winning the competition a record six times. If there would be stars for youth FIFA World Cups, Argentina would even have a massive six stars.
