'Inter Memphis Milan': Nike Inter 20-21 Kit & Collection Inspiration

Already some months ago, all of next season's Nike Internazionale Milano 2020-21 stuff got leaked. Today we came across a nice article of Italian designer rupertalbe about the inspiration of the Inter 2020-21 collection, which comes from Memphis Group.

The Memphis Group was an Italian design and architecture group (active 1980-1987) founded by Ettore Sottsass in 1980 that designed Postmodern furniture, fabrics, ceramics, glass, and metal objects.

For the Internazionale 20-21 kit and the collection, Nike got inspired by the design language of Memphis Group. According to Wikipedia, "Memphis Group created an unusual aesthetic centered around unpredictability and humor in the early 1980s."

The Nike Inter 20-21 pieces boasts patterns and looks that are reminiscent of the work from Memphis Group, e.g. a bit for the zig-zag stripes for the home kit or the abstract patterns for all the other items like the pre-match jersey.

The designs of Memphis Group are still being used as source of inspiration in 2020, with many of those millennial artists active for brands today. The group itself disbanded in 1987 because its members found it difficult to sustain their commercial success after the hype of their new movement had faded.
