As you know, we like to look beyond the world of football when it comes to boots and cleats. Today, Nike created a stunning Christmas pair of cleats for Odell Beckham Jr., wide receiver for the New York Giants in the NFL.
Nike Christmas Cleats for Beckham Jr.
Not only do Beckham Jr.'s custom Christmas cleats feature a pretty clean overall look and a clear festive inspiration, they also employ white, blue and red as integral colors of the New York Giants. Most stunningly though, the sole plate include grass that was taken from the Reginelli Way near New Orleans' Isidore Newman School, where Beckham used to play as a youngster.
"We really only have one tradition," explains current Newman head coach, Nelson Stewart. "Right as you go on the field, on the left, there's a small podium with a statue of longtime head coach Tony Reginelli. When we go out, we always touch ‘Reg’. We touch what got us there."
Nike also gives us a unique look at the creation of these one-of-a-kind football cleats, which were made in the so-called Builder Lab at Nike's global headquarter in Beaverton, Oregon.
For Beckham, the blades of grass delivered by Coach Stewart have been bonded and fused into his cleat plate. This technique ensures maximum performance and gives the emotional boost of “home field advantage” with every step. The process of making the cleats, from beginning to end, took just under two hours.
