Bundesliga to Introduce Debut Kit Patch for 2026-27 Season

The Bundesliga is set to launch a new Debut Patch from the 2026-27 season, following the model already used in MLS. According to Bild, all 36 professional clubs approved the change at the latest DFL meeting in Frankfurt.

MLS introduced an identical system in 2024, where Thomas Müller wore the patch during his debut for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The patch will be worn only once — during a player’s first-ever Bundesliga appearance — and then removed after the match. DFL partner Topps will later embed the match-worn patch into a special trading card for that player.

If confirmed, the Bundesliga would become the first European league to adopt such a feature.
