French Pub Uses Messi Shirt as Doormat
The whole world watched Lionel Messi lift the trophy he had been chasing for his entire career on Sunday, as Argentina beat France on penalties after a phenomenal 120 minutes of football. The Messi narrative meant that for the neutrals and basically everyone outside of France, the outcome of the final was perfect. Obviously, French fans were hoping for a different result, and one bar made their feelings felt in the aftermath.
They pinned a white PSG away shirt with Messi printing to the floor at the entrance, and placed a sign reading "don't forget to wipe your feet" beside it. Judging by the state of the jersey, it seems that quite a few people obliged the request. The bar in question remains unknown, but it's a safe bet that it was done as a publicity stunt to garner some likes and shares online.
It was surely intended as a joke more than anything too sinister, but encouraging people to wipe their feet on the jersey of Messi, who didn't particularly wrong the French in any unsporting way in the final, is maybe a little bit disrespectful. What do you think?
