Derdiyok's Near Horror Injury Caused By New Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 Boots?

Some days ago, it seemed like that Eren Derdiyok got one terrible injury as Galatasaray won with ease against Bursaspor. However, while it turned out that nothing was broken (he just suffered a capsule injury and will miss 2-3 weeks), the question arises if it was the fault of the brand-new Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 2018 soccer cleats with its all-new sole construction that the Swiss International has been wearing sine a few weeks...

The Nike Mercurial Superfly does not feature a traditional sole plate but wrap the entire foot in Nike Flyknit. According to Nike, without a soleplate, "the sockliner interlocks with a new internal chassis that is tuned for maximum responsiveness." This was very likely the reason that his foot was so extremely bowed...

"This new innovation hugs the foot and eliminates the gaps between the foot and the soleplate. In fact, it eliminates the soleplate altogether,” explains Max Blau, VP of Nike Football Footwear."

Swiss newspaper Blick asked the surgeon and former Swiss international Roger Berbig about Derdiyok's injury and if the boot caused the injury. He said: "That's a hypothetical question, of course. But: The picture already suggests such a guess. But if the shoe had been more stable, Derdiyok would probably have hurt a floor higher above."

Derdiyok: "The doctors told me it was a miracle that nothing was broken."

Do you think that the Nike Mercurial Superfly 360 soccer cleats and their brand-new sole construction are to blame for the injury? Let us know in the comments below.
