Adidas Under Fire For "Sexist" Man Utd Women's Kit - But is This Criticism Justified?

Adidas has come under fire for the plunging neckline of the new Adidas Manchester United 2015-16 Ladies Home Kit, which was officially released on August 1. But is this fair criticism or an overwrought story?

Adidas launched the new Manchester United 2015-2016 Home Kit at midnight last week. And while the Men's version of the kit features a unique v-collar, the Adidas Manchester United Ladies Shirt has a pronounced neckline that is much lower than the Men's version.

One United fan, @MUnitedGirl, posted on Twitter:

This is the Adidas Man Utd Ladies Shirt.

The Adidas Manchester United 2015-2016 Women's Kit mirrors the design of the men's version, while it features a much lower v-neckline and shorter sleeves. While we think that Adidas shouldn't change fundamental parts of their kits like the unique v-collar, Manchester United's Ladies Kit is in fact nothing new.

Adidas has been using the same neckline for their women's kits since more than two years, and already released a Ladies version of Bayern Munich's 2013-14 Kits in May 2013, and makes Women's kits for Chelsea, Real Madrid and Milan. However, the German brand was forced to release a statement to defend their "sexist" Man Utd Women's Kit.

"Adidas provides ‎an adult shirt which is a replica of what the players wear," the statement read. "Based on research from fans, we also offer a women's shirt as part of our lifestyle range of products. This range has a slightly different design and fit to give fans a choice.”

Ridiculous story. Do you think that the criticism of the Adidas Manchester United Ladies Kit is justified? Let us know in the comments section below.
