Earlier this week, Real Madrid officially launched the club's new away jersey, which introduces a fresh colour combination for the Spanish giants.

However, Turkish kit fanatics @esvaphane rightfully pointed out that the new jersey evokes memories of Barça's away jersey for the last campaign. Let us find what this is all about.

First of all, it immediately becomes obvious that both kits share one big similarity, which is the fact that both of them use a pale shade of purple as main colour.
Apart from the same main colour, there are also many differences such as the accent colour (black - Real Madrid; blue / red / iridescent - FC Barcelona). Additionally, FC Barcelona's 21-22 away jersey features no graphic pattern, while the opposite is the case for the new Real Madrid 2022-2023 away shirt.
All in all, it has to be said that the timing for Real Madrid releasing a mainly purple away shirt exactly one year after their biggest rivals do so would be a huge coincidence, but apart from sharing the same main colour the differences could hardly be more extreme.
To top it off, Real Madrid claims in their official press release that “the jersey also boasts a striking pattern, reminiscent of those used on adidas kits throughout the 90s”.
If we take a look back at Real Madrid's change kit history during the 90s it becomes evident that the club did in fact have purple away kits during this era, but they were all made by Spanish company Kelme.

Adidas also released two purple away kits and one purple goalkeeper shirt for Real Madrid already, but all of those jerseys were manufactured in the 2010s.
