MLS club Philadelphia Union yesterday held a special event to unveil 15 cleats, designed by children affected by cancer and created by Troy Cole, also known as Kickasso, which will be worn next month.
Earlier this season, 15 children, who are currently battling pediatric cancer or who have won their fight, came out to a Union training session and met with 15 first team players. Paired up with a player, the children sat down and designed cleats on a sheet of paper. Those designs were sent to Kickasso who brought them to life using his trademark hand-drawing technique.
The 15 first team players will wear the cleats during warm-ups for the Union's September 23 match against Chicago Fire. Following that match, the players will autograph one boot, while the child will autograph the other. There will then be a boot exchange between the player and child, so they will share the special event and bond forever.
