Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil has reverted to the Adidas Ace 16+ PureControl boots from the Stellar Pack, released in September last year, amidst speculation that he isn't too happy with the changed upper Adidas designed for the second iteration of the model. Özil Switches Back to Adidas Ace 16+
Having worn the player edition of the Red Limit Adidas Ace 17+ PureControl cleats, i.e. the ones with the new upper, in December, Özil reverted to the white and gold Stellar pack Adidas Ace 16+ PureControl for the game against Swansea on January 14. He continued with the old pair of football boots in the most recent game, last weekend against Burnley.
The most likely explanation for Özil, one of the most high-profile footballers to wear Adidas' laceless boots, to refrain from sporting the latest edition is that he isn't all too happy with the upper Adidas developed for the Ace 17+. Whereas the Ace 16+ had a full Primeknit upper, the Ace 17+ features a textile 'Controlskin' upper, which results in a much tighter fit overall.
It will be interesting to see whether Adidas comes up with a few tweaks to Özil's Ace 17+ PureControl boots in order to keep the Germany international in the brand's latest offerings at all times.
