German Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 yesterday announced that they have decided against continuing their cooperation with Adidas beyond the current contract. The current Schalke 04 Adidas kit deal ends on 30 May 2017.
Schalke To Get New Kit Supplier From the 2018-19 Season
Adidas has been making Schalke's kits for decades.
Head of marketing Alexander Jobst explained the reasoning behind the decision: "During our decision making process these past months, our focus has been on three crucial strategic points: appreciation, economic viability and identity. We have therefore taken the decision to not accept the offer of renewing with Adidas and would like to take the opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for the decades of cooperation, which we will of course continue successfully until the current contract ends on 30.05.2018."
"Our open and trusting talks with FC Schalke 04 on the continuation of the partnership after 2018 have led to the conclusion that our long-term successful cooperation will not be continued after the expiry of the current contract for the 2017-18 season," Adidas spokesman Oliver Brüggen said.
Under Armour to Become New Schalke Kit Supplier?
More than one year ago, it was already reported that Under Armour would become Schalke's new kit supplier. It is reported that the Baltimore-based brand would pay a sum of 10 to 12 million Euro, much more than what Adidas is rumored to have offered.
