In February 2019, new Hyundai A-League team Western United FC announced its name and colors. Recently, Western United FC also revealed their logo while also announcing a kit partnership with Kappa as they gear up towards their inaugural season in the A-League in 2019-20.
Western United FC Logo
The design of the Western United FC logo focuses on the ‘W’. The club had been consulting with their fan base for several months before opting to go with that design.
“We have listened to our fans and have created a brand identity which is contemporary and modern, and arguably non-traditional for a football club logo,” Western United FC CEO Maurice Bisetto said.
“This is our point of difference as we go about building a club for the future, not built on legacy, but reflecting a growing multicultural fan base that are very proud of their geographic Western roots.”
Western United FC's logo has been inspired by the aerial view of real estate development (rooftops) in Australia’s fastest growing corridor, borrowing architectural cues from the iconic West Gate Bridge – the gateway to the West.
The logo’s signature green colour symbolises freshness and the evergreen community of cultures residing and growing in the West. Unlike many club logos, United’s crest is not being encased in a crest, which the club believes brings an “air of confidence”.
“The result is a minimalist and refreshing design which reflects the club’s bold, innovative and aspirational ambitions, both on and off the field,” Bisetto said.
Western United FC Announce Kappa Kit Deal
On May 21 2019, Western United FC announced a deal with Kappa, which means that the first-ever Western United kits will be made by the Italian brand. The deal will see the Italian sportswear giant supply the club with home and away strips and training apparel for players and staff.
“WUFC is delighted to announce a partnership with a brand that boasts over 100 years of footballing history,” Western United's chief executive officer Maurice Bisetto said. “As a new club in the Hyundai A-League we’ve got an opportunity to write a new piece of history and we need a quality product, with the right pedigree, to help us do this.”
Kappa Australia CEO Ze’ev Bogaty said: “We are very pleased to be partnering with Western United Football Club and would like to thank Mr Bisetto and the team as we establish what we hope will become a strong, long-term and extremely beneficial partnership for both WUFC and Kappa.
“The partnership is a fantastic opportunity to support the A-league’s newest club and its representatives on the national stage.”
Not The Real Kit - Kappa Western United FC Concept Kit
Shortly after the kit deal with Kappa was announced, a stunning Kappa Western United FC jersey made the waves in the internet. It was reported by media to be the club's new away kit, but we understand it is just a concept.
The new WUFC home kit for 2019-20 is expected to be black with stripes.
Western United FC will start playing in the A-League from the 2019-2020 season as the competition's 11th club. The Kappa WUFC 2019-20 kits are expected to be released in August 2019.
