It isn't too surprising to see certain players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or James McClean rock a custom or special edition pair every so often, but a more unexpected wearer caught our eye in Ligue Un at the weekend. A member of AJ Ajaccio's staff showed off a pair of Gold Predator Accelerators while checking on an injured player.
AJ Ajaccio Staff Wears Gold Predator Accelerators
The boots in question are remakes of the original Adidas Predator Accelerator that was released in 1998, which were worn by Alessandro Del Piero, David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane among others. This particular gold pair are remakes released in 2019 as part of Adidas' "25 Years of Predator" campaign, which saw a number or classic models re-issued. The gold pair were a tribute to Zinedine Zidane, who scored two goals in France's 1998 World Cup final victory wearing the originals.
Former Arsenal players Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi were spotted in the gold Zidane editions around the time of their release in 2019, while a few other pros undoubtedly got their hands on them too. Obviously the Ajaccio staff member who wore them on Friday night is a boot fan as he would have had to act fast to snag one of the limited numbers of pairs available.
He surely knew he would get some attention for his choice of footwear, as the vast majority of non-playing staff usually opt for the simplest, plain black boots available to them from the club's technical sponsor. Interestingly enough, his colleague also went for a colourful pair of more recent Adidas Predator Edges.
