Despiting having a contract with Nike until 2026, Atlético Madrid are set to announce a kit deal with Puma for the 2020-21 season, according to Spanish media.
Puma had already supplied kits for Atlético during the 1980s and 1990s and is now set to return to sponsoring the club after almost 20 years with Nike.
According to the reports, talks between Puma and Atlético commenced early last summer. The German is brand is said to have offered to double the amount Nike is paying to the club currently, which has prompted the Colchoneros to work on rescinding the current deal.
While Puma had initially planned to already work with Atlético in the 2019-20 season, this has proven impossible and it's now instead being worked on the 2020-21 Atlético range including kits - which are said to have already been completed more or less - with an official announcement expected in around a year's time.
Atlético will join the likes of Manchester City and Valencia, who will both wear Puma from the start of next season. In addition to signing the club, it's reported that Puma is interested in also picking up a number of Atlético players including Diego Costa and Thomas Lemar as well as head coach Diego Simeone. On top of that, the brand very recently announced a deal with goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
