Musiala to Get New Shirt Number?

Jamal Musiala, currently wearing the number 42 for Bayern Munich, could be in line for a new shirt number as part of ongoing contract negotiations with the club. Musiala has been wearing the number 42 kit since his debut for Bayern as a youth player and did so until today.

Potential Musiala Number Change in Talks Amid Contract Discussions

Musiala has been wearing the number 42 since making his debut for the first team.

The best-fitting number for the young star would be the iconic number 10, a jersey often associated with top playmakers—a role Musiala has increasingly embodied. However, this number is currently worn by Leroy Sané, whose contract with Bayern runs until summer 2025. With Sané's future uncertain, the possibility of Musiala taking over the number 10 jersey could become a reality.

For now, Bayern has no appealing lower numbers available, meaning any potential switch may depend on future developments. Interestingly, Musiala already wears the number 10 for the German national team since March 2024, having previously worn 14.

Back in 2020, FC Bayern Munich provided two players with better shirt numbers - Gnabry and Kimmich.

Other Bayern players with very high shirt numbers are Josip Stanišić (number 44) and Aleksandar Pavlović (number 45). It seems well possible that these two will switch shirt numbers once better numbers become available.

Should Bayern reserve the number 10 for Musiala if Sané departs in 2025? Should Musiala continue to wear the number 42? Let us know in the comments below.
