Adidas has encountered issues with the tear resistance of its elite football kits, with two high-profile incidents occurring in just one week.
Germany 2024 Home Kit & Arsenal 24-25 Away Kit Rip
Incident 1: Kimmich's Kit Rips During International Duty
During the recent international break, Germany's Joshua Kimmich experienced a tear in his Adidas kit, specifically in the collar/shoulder area. Despite the malfunction, Kimmich continued playing and even scored a crucial goal, making the damage all the more noticeable during his celebration. The rip in his kit became widely discussed as it exposed potential flaws in the fabric's strength.
Incident 2: Arsenal's Away Kit Tears
This Sunday, Arsenal's Leandro Trossard faced a more severe wardrobe problem with the club's 24-25 away kit. His shirt ripped across the right chest area during the game, forcing the team to provide him with a replacement quickly.
General Problem or a Coincidence
However, do these two incidents highlight a possible ongoing issue with Adidas' latest kits? We do not think so yet. The two rips are pretty different, with Kimmich's happening in the collar area and Trossard's in the chest. Also, more importantly, neither kit features the same fabric. Adidas updated its fabric for the 24-25 season kits.
Adidas Top Teams Use Different Fabric Than National Teams
Still, we will closely monitor to see if more Adidas kits will tear.
