Report: PSG 22-23 Kit to Feature Star - France Stars Kit Rule Explained

Update: A year on from Lille winning the 2021 Ligue 1 title, its looking increasingly likely that PSG will win their 10th title this season, which once again brings up the question of whether the club will add a star to their 22-23 kits.

A new report by L'Equipe states that PSG will in fact add a star to the 22-23 kit if the title is won, but not in the way one might expect. Rather than above the crest, as is the case with Saint-Étienne and Marseille, the logo would appear on the right sleeve, included in the Ligue 1 winner's badge. Interestingly, stars were integrated in the Winner's badge up until it was redesigned in 2018 - below you can see the 2018 badge compared to the 2021 one currently worn by Lille.

Update: It is the last matchday of the French Ligue 1 today. Currently placed second with one point behind Lille, it is possible that PSG will be crowned league champions today. If so, this could mean the addition of something special on the club's kits - a star above the badge.

If PSG wins the Ligue 1 today, it will be their 10th title - this means they would have the right to add a star on their kit. Currently, only Saint-Etienne has a star for 10 championships, while Marseille has one for the Champions League title.

It is not sure if PSG will add a star on the kit for 10 league titles

It is not known if PSG will add the star on the kit if they win their 10th title, but we assume so.

14 April 2019: PSG To Get First Star Soon? France Stars Kit Rule Explained

Have you ever wondered why PSG does not have a star on their kits while AS Saint-Etienne and Olympique Marseille even have one on their logo? Let us find out which and why French teams have stars on their jerseys.

French Teams Get Star For Every 10 League Titles

Unlike the rule in the German Bundesliga, the stars rule in France is pretty simple. A team gets a star for every 10 league titles. However, there is only one team with 10 titles or more (AS Saint-Etienne - 10 titles), but there are three teams who are having stars on their kit (and even on their logo) - AS Saint-Etienne, Olympique Marseille and Nantes.

Olympique Marseille has one star for their 1993 Champions League. Nantes has eight stars incorporated in their logo for their 8 league titles.

PSG does not have a star on their kit because they only won 7 league titles so far (soon 8). There are various teams that have just a few less than 10 titles. Below is a list with all French clubs with more than 3 titles.
