The inside of the Afghanistan away shirt, as well as the front and back show the ‘Lions of Afghanistan’ motif.
“From the outset it was clear that the shirt was enormously significant,” says Hummel designer Paul Fitzgerald. “I asked Khalida (Popal, the former captain of the Afghanistan women’s team) to think of something that inspires her about Afghanistan and she told me about the Afghan mountains – that was really my starting point.
Hummel designed a special hijab baselayer for the Afghanistan 2016 women’s jerseys that enables the country’s female footballers to be play while being covered head to toe. From each Afghanistan shirt sold Hummel donate €15 to the Afghanistan women’s team.
