Inspired by AIK: Classy Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United Retro Kit Concepts Revealed

Swedish club AIK and Nike earlier this month released what could easily be the best of many special-edition jerseys since the two parties joined operations a few years ago. Dubbed the 'Behrens Kit' after club founder Isidor Behrens, it's a modern reinterpretation of the club's first-ever kit.

Inspired by this classy look, we've created a quadruple of concepts for some of Europe's biggest clubs: FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United, each inspired by every club's first-ever design.

FC Barcelona

Inspired by the shirt worn immediately after the club's foundation in 1899, our concept introduces an elaborate half-and-half look. At this point in time Barcelona still used the city coat of arms instead of a dedicated club logo.

Real Madrid

Our Real Madrid concept is as clean as it gets. It's all-white with a tonal Adidas logo on the right chest and the 1902 club crest sitting on the other side.

Liverpool

Before adopting their trademark all-red shirt in 1896, Liverpool had worn sky blue and white halves for four seasons: this inspired more recent designs such as the 1995-96 away by Adidas or the 2017-18 away by New Balance. In terms of template, this shirt is practically identical to Barcelona's.

In anticipation of Liverpool's imminent switch to Nike, we went with the Swoosh instead of New Balance's logo.

Manchester United

We decided to use the first-ever kit worn under the Manchester United name instead of the well-known half-and-half design from the Newton Heath days. Therefore, our concept is completely red with a tonal Adidas logo on the right chest.

Just as Barcelona, Manchester United also used the City of Manchester coat of arms.
