Last night, France faced Poland in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup. The game itself was a rather one-sided affair with France snatching a 3-1 win courtesy of goals from Kylian Mbappé and Olivier Giroud. Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty for Poland during extra time.
However, our eyes were set on Barcelona defender Jules Koundé, who combined the France 2022 home shirt with a classy gold chain. Let's find out what happened, and why Koundé had to take the chain off during the game.
Jules Koundé Combines France 2022 Home Kit With Gold Chain
Jules Koundé needed help to remove his chain during the game.
Koundé decided to combine the France 2022 home shirt with a fitting gold chain, which neatly accentuated the golden accents of the France 2022 home jersey. Nevertheless, it is a violation of rule 4 of the IFAB-rules.
IFAB is the International Football Association Board, which defines the laws of the beautiful game. In fact, rule 4 states that players must not wear any dangerous equipment or jewelry during matches.
Section one of rule 4 states that due to safety, "A player must not use equipment or wear anything that is dangerous. All items of jewellery (necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather bands, rubber bands, etc.) are forbidden and must be removed. Using tape to cover jewellery is not permitted."
